Holiday Looks at Lilly Pulitzer

19 Nov

We’ve all been there. You’re racing around trying to find a dress at the last minute to wear to a holiday dinner or party. Think about all the times you may have settled for something that you wouldn’t have purchased if it weren’t last minute.

With so many holiday looks already out, now is the time to get a jump on things and stave off the stress of last second shopping.

I hit Lilly Pulitzer (Level 2). You’ll find festive styles to wear next week to Thanksgiving dinner (can’t believe it’s already next week) and looks that will take you through the holiday soiree circuit.

A dress such as the Kariana Sweater Shift Dress can take on multiple looks, depending on how you wear it. Pop on different statement necklaces such as the Sweetheart Necklace in black or the turquoise Bubbly Necklace.

In a Twist Belt

Or, you can accent the Karianna with a belt, such as the In a Twist Belt in gold metallic above.

The Tropic Top in Metallic Vintage Brocade adds instant festive flair to a black pant, pencil skirt or even skinny jean. Dress it down with a cardigan, keep it more business with a blazer or wear it on its own.

The Tropic Top

The Deanna Maxi Dress in Bamboo Geo Lace is one of those rare dresses that you can bring out all year long! Here, this navy number is paired with a gold metallic Murphy Wrap in The Swims Jacquard and the In a Twist Belt in True Navy. You can also top it with a cardigan to make the look more casual.

I first spotlighted The Barbara in Two Tone Truly Petal Lace in a summery pink and green version last summer. Here it’s done in True Navy.

For a dressier look, consider The Selassie Dress in Va Voom Purple, Bamboo Geo Lace.

Lilly Pulitzer also has sweet picks for your little girl. Meet the Adele Sweaterdress in Take off Stripe and the Rue Sweaterdress in black Skippy Scallop Intarsia. Note the adorable purple bow on the back of the Rue Sweaterdress.

Coming up tomorrow, I’ll have game suggestions that you can play at your family holiday gatherings from Marbles: The Brain Store.

Bold in Black & Navy Blue

1 Oct

I remember a couple of years ago when a good friend returned from a trip to Paris and told me that everyone was pairing navy with black. I had always thought it was a fashion faux pas and now — well, it’s growing on me…

I spotted this color coupling in collections at BCBGMAXAZRIA (level 2) and Ann Taylor (level 4).

Check out this moto jacket from BCBGMAXAZRIA with standout textured detailing.

Here’s a closer look at the triple textured patterns.

The classic jacquard pattern on the next two looks from BCBGMAXAZRIA takes on an edgier personality with the black and blue color combo on the top and dress below.

Over at Ann Taylor, the Hourglass Sheath Dress caught my eye. The hourglass colorblocking couldn’t be more figure flattering. The white paneling draws the eyes straight to the waist.

I showed these two looks from Ann Taylor during our GURU Fall Trends Event.  A sheer top like this one, pictured over a cami, can be worn with a pencil skirt and pumps for work and skinnies and wedges for night.

This lace and sheer top from Ann Taylor can also be dressed up or down.

Here are links to more fall trends posts featuring  Animal Prints, outerwear and handbags. Here is a recent fall trends segment featured on WBAL-TV.

Animal Prints are HOT for Fall!

27 Sep

Animal print is getting lots of play for fall. It’s a style that’s timeless yet couldn’t be more on trend! You can work it into your professional wardrobe, wear it casually on the weekends and strut it out at night.

I spotted this top at Caché (Level 4). Pair it with a suit or cardi for work. You can also wear a top like this with jeans or a skinny pant. Amp up the look by adding on a leather (faux is fab too) skirt or pant.

Go glam in an animal print dress, like this one. Add on gold accessories or a pop of color to change up the look.

Animal Print Jacquard Sheath Dress

I tend to gravitate to leopard prints and am thinking of adding some zebra and snake patterns to the mix.  Along with the standout pattern, note the keyhole detailing on this sweater dress.

You can also find animal prints featuring bold colors, such as this red scarf from Ann Taylor (level 4).

This season, Ann Taylor is showing many animal print pieces that can become an instant wardrobe staple. A sweater like the black and white one, pictured on the left below, can go with just about anything.

Even a little animal print can go a long way. Here’s a peek at just some of the animal print you’ll find at Aldo (Level 3).

I’ve never seen animal print for guys. A manager at Aldo showed me these men’s shoes.

If you’re looking for snake print on your shoes, head to Call it Spring (Level 3). You can go subtle, as done on the brown bootie, or go for a full snake print.

I also featured an animal print look from The Limited (Level 3) last weekend in a Fall Trends segment on WBAL-TV 11 News. You can watch the segment here.  And if you’re looking for an animal print handbag, I spotlighted two of them recently on the blog.

FASHION FIX! Finding a Fun Dress (Video Edition!)

23 Jul

I love when people are willing to step outside of their comfort zones and try out a new style! It’s even better when someone is game to go shopping with me for something she normally wouldn’t seek out.

Rhonda Drew, the store manager at Capitol Luggage & Leather, shared with me that she usually dresses “business professional and conservative” and often goes for separates in a limited number of colors.

Click on the image below to hear from Rhonda about what she is looking to add to her wardrobe!

Rhonda decided that she wanted to try on dresses. She has just one in her closet. We hit Caché (Level 4). In just one whirl around the store, we found lots of options for her to try.

Two dress options...

Two dress options…

This ponte dress features a classic silhouette. The v-neck and belt are figure flattering. This is the kind of style that can take you from day to night. It can be topped with a fitted blazer or cardigan.

Ponte doesn’t wrinkle!

Rhonda looked absolutely stunning in every single dress she tried!  After seeing her in the dresses, I had a hard time believing that dresses aren’t a regular part of her wardrobe rotation.

Colorblocking continues to be a hot trend. The vertical colorblocking adds a slimming touch. The blue and black snakeskin sheath is done in a knit and a fab fall transition piece. The Ponte Studded Sheath Dress hugs in just the right places and is a chic look for a night out!

Three hits!

Three hit looks!

Rhonda left Caché  with plans to return. Click on the image below for her thoughts about our styling session.

GURU Tip: It’s worth the time to try lots of dress styles on to find the most flattering fit. They’re powerful timesavers once you have some in your closet. Think about how much easier it is to pull just one piece and go instead of having to coordinate a top and bottom!

Did you catch yesterday’s Fashion Fix? I featured tips on how to wear a tunic — especially if you are shorter in stature. Here’s the link.

Add some SIZZLE to your SUMMER STYLE with NEON!

8 Jun

It’s BACK!

Neon is a hot trend for the summer. You can add instant impact to your look with just a touch or go full throttle!  This past week, I showed neon looks on FOX45 Morning News for both day and night.

Here are the day looks!

Day Neon Looks

Day Neon Looks

From left to right above:  The neon coral sandals are from Johnston & Murphy! They’re the perfect way to add a pop of neon to your look and can even play well with a more conservative dress.

Gigi’s dress is from Macy’s and by Calvin Klein. It reminds me of a water color painting with the strokes of neons and brights! Plus, the exposed zipper detailing around the waist is an on-trend touch.

Ali is wearing Lilly Pulitzer. This is the Delia dress in Turquoise Let’s Cha Cha. It’s a modern take on the classic shift.

Alyssa’s outfit is from Gap. She is wearing a neon patterned Boyfriend Geo Print Shirt with a pair of peach shorts. A top like this one can be paired with many colors. The top is also available in other prints. We accentuated the neon look with her clutch, also from Gap.

And now, for some neon looks for night…

Neon for Night

From left to right: Gigi is decked out in a bright lime dress from BCBGMAXARIA. We topped the dress with a piece of body jewelry and completed her look with ankle strap stilettos, also from BCBGMAXAZRIA.

I found Ali’s look in the Macy’s Junior’s Department. Note the standout neon straps on her tank. Black and white patterns are also a top trend for the season. To keep all eyes on the top, we went for a simple look on the bottom with the dark rinse skinnies. Her neon clutch and Marc Jacobs watch are also available at Macy’s.

Alyssa’s flattering accordion pleated hi-lo dress is from Caché. This dress features adjustable straps, allowing for a customized fit!  Hi-lo hemlines continue to be hot this summer.

Coming up tomorrow (6/9), catch my Father’s Day gift segment on WJZ-TV Morning Edition around 8:45 am.

Primping for Preakness: 12 Dress Ideas!

13 May

Are you on the prowl for a dress to wear to Preakness this weekend?

I hit Lilly Pulitzer, Caché and Ann Taylor for inspiration. Here are 12 finds!

The Lacina Dress at Lilly Pulitzer in Just Add Mint is a surefire head turner — whether you’re going to Preakness or entertaining at home! Note the crochet floral detail around the neckline and on the back of this classic shift.

At Ann Taylor (Level 4), here’s another standout lace option! The Lace Horizon dress is traditional with a twist with the sorbet colored stripes.

The Paisley Border Shift Dress is done in refreshing blues and greens.

Black and white is a big trend this season. The yellow really stands out against the black and white on the sunny Botanical Print Dress.

Next stop — Caché (Level 4). Yellow pops again in the Black and White One Shoulder Maxi Dress. Add a statement necklace in any color to this dress and you’ll have a new look! Any color works with a dress like this.

Nothing basic about this black and white!

If you love bold colors, consider a look like this Pleated Hi-Low print dress.  The hi-low hemline is trending once again this year!

The Blue Striped Maxi Dress skims your shape and is pulled together with the figure flattering belt. Stay cool in the simple, elegant White Pleated Layer Dress.

Four standouts!

Add definition at the waist with belted looks, as seen on the silver and aqua hi-lo dress, draw attention to the legs with a shorter  look, pair some timeless tulle with gold sparkle or go for a more understated glam style.

At Macy’s, you’ll find a wide range of styles and colors in a section dedicated to Prom 2013! The lavender gown features a ruffled hi-lo detail that will standout on the dance floor! Many of the prom dresses are already marked down.

At Macy’s, hi-lo hemlines, short looks and floor length gowns all share center stage!  The color options and cuts seem endless. With so many styles to scope out, you may want to start by honing in on a specific style or color.  Think about if you want major sequins? A single shoulder? A Hi-lo hemline? Lace?

Black and white paired together isn’t just creating a stir in daytime looks. It’s also a winning combo for the prom. The Ying & Yang Gown, is enunciated with single shoulder detail, a curved rhinestone seam down the front and flattering ruching.

15 Mar

Lace is taking a leading role for spring!

This trend is showing up in just about every color you can imagine — brights, pastels and neutrals. You can go for a full lace look or  just a hint of lace detail. It’s a trend we saw this fall and winter, but wait until you see how the style gets freshened up for spring!

At Lilly Pulitzer (Level 2), meet Tabitha in New Green Batt it Up and MarieKate in Flutter Blue Go to Batt.

And, now for the full outfit! This is the Bristol top in Shorely Blue with the Walsh shorts in New Green. The top features a slight peplum.  Additional colors of both pieces are available.

Add ANY color tee or tank to the A-line Meadow Skirt in Fiesta Pink Daisy Chain Lace and you’ll be ready to rock the day!

Next stop, Ann Taylor (Level 4), where you’ll find lots of black, white and pops of yellow! You can pull in yellow as a solid, as done with the cardigan, or go for this cheery lace skirt in Yellow Bliss!

Ann Taylor, Lace

A lace pencil skirt skirt takes on a completely different look in Juicy Magenta.

I have to show you one more Ann Taylor find before we hit the next store!  Pair a top like this one with a bright colored cropped pant or shorts. Or, while the temps are still cool, add a cardi in any color.

My quest for all styles lace takes us next to Francesca’s Collections (Level 4). Here are two more black and white lace looks!
